Much as I dislike to see a woman speak in public, as way beyond the sphere of [house?] duties, yet, in these perilous times I have sought to prepare to offer my thanks to you and all others of Virginia's [sons?}, who are now lifting up the voice of peace, while you were surrounded by [so many who would hurl us], and all we hold dear, into the whirlpool of civil war.
