It is with sincere regret that we announce the death of Com. Thomas Ap. Catesby Jones, of the United States Navy, who expired, after a long and severe illness on Sunday night last, about 11 o'clock, in the 69th year of his age, at Sharon, his late residence, near Prospect Hill, in Fairfax County, Va. This gallant officer and estimable man, distinguished himself in the war of 1812; and has, ever since then, whenever occasion offered, borne the flag of his country in honor and in triumph. He was justly esteemed not only by his brother officers, but by the whole community in which he lived. High minded, honorable, and patriotic, he commanded the respect of all who knew him; and his memory will be long cherished by his friends and neighbors. He made his life always useful; and for several years past had devoted much of his attention to agricultural pursuits--being a good farmer, as well as a brave sailor. Appropriate honors will be paid to the deceased; and they will be honors deserved by a career of devotion to duty and love of country.

The funeral services of the late Com. Jones, will take place, at Sharon, his residence on Wednesday,(te-morrow,) the 2d of June, at 11 o'clock, A. M.

The Presbytery of Potomac, held its Spring meeting at Lewinsville, Fairfax County, Va., on Friday, the 20th instant, and was opened by a sermon from Rev. E. C. Bittinger, the last Moderator. ''This Presbytery'' is composed of the churches of Washington and Georgetown, in the District of Columbia; Annapolis, Bladensburg, Nealsville, Darnestown, and West River, in Maryland; and those counties of Alexandria, Fairfax, Prince William, Fauquier, Culpeper, and Rappahannock, in Virginia.

There was a good attendance of Ministers and Elders, and the sessions of Presbytery, as well as the religious services held at Lewinsville and Falls Church, were largely attended by the people of the neighborhood.--The "free conversation on the subject of Religion" showed a gradual progress in the churches, and a pleasant state of things within the bounds of Presbytery. Rev. Dr. Bowcock, of Georgetown, and Mr. Irving, Elder, of Fellow Chapel Church, were appointed Commissioners to the General Assembly, the Rev. Mr. Pugh and Elder Shields their alternates. Presbytery adjourned to meet in the First Church, Alexandria, on the first Monday in May next.--The Regular Fall meeting will be held in Warrenton.
